Summer of Culture: Landscape Imaginary 'On The Island' exhibition
'On The Island' is a series of 100 short videos depicting artist partnership, Daniel & Clara, in the landscapes of Mersea Island, where they’ve been living since March 2020
Throughout the summer of 2022 artist duo Daniel & Clara will be taking their work on tour across East Anglia, launching on Mersea Island on Saturday 21 May with an exhibition of their video installation On The Island at East Mersea Village Hall.
Responding to the psychological impact of the global pandemic and the physical restrictions of lockdown, On The Island is a series of 100 short videos depicting Daniel & Clara in the landscapes of Mersea Island, Essex, where they’ve been living since March 2020.
Filmed during their one hour daily walks, On The Island captures a series of moments of deep engagement with the landscapes and weather through that strange year when we all found ourselves confined to our local environments.
This exhibition will be accompanied by a meet the artist talk at 1.00pm and a film screening at 5.00pm.
A map for a self-guided walk at Cudmore Grove that invites you on a sensorial re-imagining of the landscape. The maps can be picked up from East Mersea village hall over the weekend of the exhibition.
A creative workshop with artist Rachel Poulton for children aged five to 11-years-old is taking place on Sunday 22 May. The workshop will explore the landscapes of Cudmore Grove and make a zine inspired by the children's observations. To book either a 10.00am or a 1.00pm session visit: Landscape Imaginary
The half-day sessions will start with an age appropriate game/participatory discussion, we will talk about the landscape and what it feels like to experience the world around us using all our senses, with an emphasis on looking and looking again.
